Holidays to Anaheim

It's not all about Mickey Mouse on holidays to Anaheim, California - although of course a visit to Disneyland will probably top the list of things you want to do. But you shouldn't forget about Snoopy & co over at Knott's Berry Farm, Southern California's other major amusement park. Nor the fact that the multiple delights of Los Angeles, Hollywood and a string of beautiful Pacific beaches are just a mouse's whisker away.

But if it's theme park action you're after, then Anaheim doesn't disappoint. Disneyland is the original Disney park and Tinkerbell's magic fairy dust is still doing the trick. Little kids adore meeting their favourite characters in Fantasyland or exploring Toontown, while older kids (that includes you, adults) can get a buzz out of riding the coasters and flumes. There are eight themed lands and around 60 rides and attractions to get stuck in to, which means plenty to keep you going for days.

Over at Knott's Berry Farm, the emphasis is firmly on roller coasters and this is the place to come if you're after high octane thrills. There's some seriously scary stuff on offer here, and coaster connoisseurs flock to the Ghostrider - one of the longest and tallest wooden roller coasters in the world. Meanwhile Snoopy, Charlie Brown and friends are on hand to entertain the little ones at pint-size Camp Snoopy, and Knott's Soak City waterpark is just next door when you need to cool off.

Or you could cool off in the ocean of course, since the coast is only 20 miles away, or head off to LA and Santa Monica to experience a different slice of SoCal life.  Tough choices are what holidays to Anaheim are all about.

California Adventure

California theme parks

The five themed areas of Disneyland's newer part celebrate all things Californian. There are thrills aplenty on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and California Screamin' coasters, while kids will love all the cute critters in A Bug's Land. Don't miss the Soarin' Over California ride, a simulated hang-glider trip across the State, which feels so real it'll give you goose bumps. Not forgetting Cars Land, the latest expansion in the park. A 12-acre land inspired on the Disney•Pixar film, Cars.

Hit The Beach

You simply can't come on holidays to Anaheim and not go to the beach. Hanging out by the ocean is as much a part of the California way of life as endless sunshine, and there are some superb stretches to discover. Head to nearby Newport Beach to soak up the rays on silken sands and stroll around the ritzy harbour; try Huntington Beach for excellent surfing; or stop off at fashionable Laguna to see and be seen.

Shop Around

Retail therapy of every description is available in Anaheim. Disneyland's Main Street USA and Downtown Disney districts have scores of stores. And elsewhere there's all kinds of outlet shopping, boutiques and malls, including the popular GardenWalk, with its winning mix of prime retail, restaurants and entertainment.

Be Wowed

There's fantastic live entertainment on offer in Anaheim, and some of the best is in Disneyland. The daily character parades and spectacular nightly fireworks are a Disney institution. A must-see is the Fantasmic display, when Mickey Mouse re-enacts the amazing scenes from Fantasia complete with music and mind-blowing special effects.

Catch A Game

The giant letter 'A' standing outside the Angels of Anaheim baseball stadium, the fourth oldest in Major League baseball, gives the ground its name. Watching a game at 'The Big 'A' is a family-friendly experience with a chance to see the 'California Spectacular', when Disney-imagineered fireworks and erupting geysers celebrate each home run.
