Los Angeles

Everything you've ever heard about LA, California is true. Yes, the sun shines brightly, glinting off the stars along Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame; yes, Rodeo Drive is teeming with shoppers shelling out hundreds of dollars on designer labels; yes, the body builders on Muscle Beach really do have six-packs to die for; and yes, local celebs do sometimes sneak around in disguise. Look behind you - it's Rihanna in dark glasses and a wig!

This is a city where dreams are made and broken; but it's also a city where you're guaranteed a dream vacation, because holidays to Los Angeles have it all. If it's iconic sights you're after, then look no further than LA.'s famous 'Hollywood' sign. After some beach action? Then there are about 80 miles of soft white sand and surf to choose from. And if you're a fan of theme parks, then you're spoiled for choice with Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood and others on the doorstep.

Shopping is a way of life in the City of Angels, and whether you're simply staring through windows or bagging the latest fashions, retail therapy is a must. Celebrity-strewn Robertson Avenue in Beverley Hills has big names and exclusive boutiques; Venice's Abbot Kinney Boulevard is best for hipsters in search of vintage and one-offs; and there are malls by the handful, plus fantastic outlet shopping at Citadel Outlets.

But LA also has a cultural side, with some superb museums and awesome architecture to discover. The handsome Getty Center houses an exquisite art collection, and has beautiful gardens and views across the city to boot. And the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall is not only stunning to look at but home to the LA Philharmonic. So do yourself a favour, and make sure holidays to Los Angeles are top of your list!

You can also explore our other popular USA holiday destinations including Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, San Francisco, and Hawaii.

Tinseltown

Hollywood Walk of Fame

Hollywood is everything you think it will be. From its legendary hillside sign, to the names emblazoned on the Walk of Fame, you've seen it all before in the movies. But experiencing it first-hand is something else. Be sure to stop by Grauman's Chinese Theatre (now TCL Chinese Theatre), the site of countless red carpet screenings; also the Kodak Theatre (now the Dolby Theatre), where the Oscars are held.

Beach Life

L.A. is home to some of the finest beaches. From the many entertainments and distractions of busy Venice Beach to the wild waves at Malibu's Surfrider Beach, there's a stretch of white sand and sea for everyone. Santa Monica Beach is great for the family, with its two miles of sands and its iconic pier and funfair.

Food, Glorious Food

Los Angeles is a melting pot of different nationalities - which means that the food on offer is just as delicious and diverse. Chinatown is the best place for great noodles and Dim Sum. Little Tokyo has the best sushi and ramen. Olvera Street serves up mouth-watering Mexican. And elsewhere you can get everything from homely hot dogs, to Michelin-star dishes served up in restaurants where celebrity spotting is a regular pastime.

Theme Park Heaven

The hardest part is choosing which one to enjoy today? Disneyland has magic fairy dust, character parades and fireworks, Universal Studios offers amazing movie-based rides and attractions, Knott's Berry Landing is the original LA theme park. Or Magic Mountain with the highest number of roller coasters anywhere, the choice is yours to make.

After Dark

There's a thriving bar and club scene in Los Angeles. For live music, clubs like the Viper Room and legendary Whisky a Go-Go on Sunset Strip are the place to go. Or you could go spot celebrities at Bar Marmont before following the in-crowd on to Supperclub.
