Day 1: London - Phoenix - Tucson (approx. 120 miles)
Arrive into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona, pick up your rental car and head to Tucson to your hotel. Stay 1 night at Best Western Plus Royal Sun Inn & Suites (or similar).
Day 2: Tucson - Mesa (approx. 116 miles)
Today you’ll have a chance to go back in time to the western days and explore Old Tucson. Here you will find a movie studio and a theme park, where more than 300 Western-themed movies, commercials and shows were filmed. You can also explore one of the largest privately funded aerospace museums home to 300 historical planes including a collection of World War II aircrafts exhibited outdoors and indoors. Perhaps visit the San Xavier Mission, a Spanish Catholic mission located just outside Tucson before heading to Mesa. Stay 1 night at Hilton Phoenix Mesa (or similar).
Day 3: Mesa – Scottsdale (approx. 10 miles)
Experience the authentic, outdoor wonderland that all of Arizona used to be! Follow the historic route along the the Apache Trail visiting Goldfield Ghost Town, mountain bike in the breath-taking Superstition Mountains, or relax on a Canyon Lake sternwheeler paddleboat cruise. For the foodies, visit our heritage farms such as Queen Creek Olive Mill, Schnepf Farms' peach orchard, or Joe’s Farm Grill at Agritopia. Mesa is the heartland of Arizona’s Agritourism area – meet our organic farmers and sample their amazing crops! Stay the night at the beautiful new Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West (or similar)!
Day 4: Scottsdale – Sedona (approx. 125 miles)
This morning, venture out and perhaps go hiking in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park, or have a picnic in Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve where you can enjoy the scenic views of the mountains and the McDowell Peak. While in downtown visit the famous art district with many galleries, museums, local restaurants. Perhaps check out the Scottsdale's Museum of the West in Old Town Scottsdale to explore more art, history and culture of the 19 states including the American West before driving to Sedona. Enjoy stargazing in Sedona, one of the 14 certified IDA International Dark Sky Communities. Stay 1 night at Hampton Inn Sedona (or similar).
Day 5: Sedona – Flagstaff (approx. 30 miles)
Sedona offers four mild seasons in a red rock playground where families can escape, romantic adventures unfold, and photographer’s dreams come true. It is the perfect place to participate in adrenaline pumping off-road tours, hike or bike, or indulge in healing therapies. Sedona is also a shopper’s paradise with over 80 fine art galleries and shops. Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross, picnic at the Red Rock State Park, or enjoy local wine varietals that accompany Sedona’s mouthwatering southwestern, Italian, Latin, or Asian cuisine. After viewing the stunning sunset take a short drive to Flagstaff. Stay 2 nights at Little America Hotel (or similar).
Day 6: Flagstaff
Enjoy Flagstaff today with its many attractions and cultural history. If you’re a fan of science, visit the Lowell Observatory, an astronomical observatory and where Pluto was discovered, or perhaps the Museum of Northern Arizona to learn about the region’s natural and cultural heritage of the Colorado Plateau. Get your kicks on route 66 or enjoy your day exploring the great outdoors. A day trip to Grand Canyon National Park just a one hour and 15 minute drive away is also a great option. The historic downtown offers unique shopping options and gastronomic delights to top off your day.
Day 7: Flagstaff – Phoenix (approx. 144 miles)
Today, leave Flagstaff and carry on south to Phoenix, the last destination on your fly drive trip. Perhaps stop at the Sunset Point Rest Area and see the sun dial memorial, a great spot for a picnic with beautiful views over the Bradshaw Mountains out to the west. Stay 2 nights at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Phoenix Downtown - Ballpark (or similar).
Day 8: Phoenix
While in Phoenix you will have plenty to do before you returning home. Be sure to visit the Desert Botanical Garden located in Papago Park and see one of the trail exhibits to learn about the desert and native plants. Just adjacent to the Desert Botanical Garden is the Phoenix Zoo, home to over 1400 animals from around the world. Back in Downtown Phoenix, see St. Mary's Basilica the oldest Catholic parish in the city or visit local restaurants, bars and fashion stores in a bustling urban center.
Day 9: Phoenix – London
Your Western Adventure comes to an end today. Take the short drive back to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to drop off your Alamo rental car before boarding your overnight return flight back home.
