Day 1: Arrive Boston
Fly from London into Logan International Airport and transfer independently to your hotel in Boston. Your Tour Director will be available at the hotel to discuss any questions you have for your upcoming trip. Stay 1 night at the Midtown Boston (or similar).
Day 2: Boston – Salem – Kennebunkport – Bar Harbor
Head north from Boston and there’s almost four centuries of history to discover, along with some of the East Coast’s most beautiful seascapes. Your first stop is Salem, the site of the infamous witch trials and birthplace of classic novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. From here, continue along the coast to Cape Neddick 'Nubble' Lighthouse, the most photographed lighthouse in the USA.
Passing through the historic harbour town of Portsmouth, your next stop will be Kennebunkport, which is home to the summer estates of some of the country's most prominent politicians including George H. W. Bush. Continue through pretty fishing villages to Bar Habor. Stay 2 nights at the Best Western Acadia Park Inn (or similar).
Day 3: Bar Harbor – Acadia National Park – Bar Harbor
Today, you’ll have a full day to discover one of the oldest and most beautiful national parks in the USA. Watch out for soaring peaks, glacier-carved valleys, pristine lakes, rugged shoreline and the only true fjord on the Atlantic Coast. Your tour will take you along the Park Loop Road and up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain at 1,530 ft above sea level for spectacular views. This evening you can choose to set sail on a sunset cruise aboard a traditional lobster boat (optional).
Day 4: Bar Harbor – White Mountains
Travel inland today towards the majestic scenery of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, known as ‘the rooftop of New England’. The landscape here is dotted with pretty covered bridges, charming towns and villages and plenty of historic sites. You’ll also be surrounded by beautiful mountain vistas, pristine forests and world renowned fall foliage. Stay 1 night at the Lodge at Bretton Woods (or similar).
Day 5: White Mountains – Stowe – Green Mountains
Small villages complete with white church steeples and covered bridges dot the landscape today, offering a panorama that has inspired a million postcards. This is New England as you imagined it. Head for Stowe, a classic 200 year-old mountain resort village with Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. From here, travel through the dense hardwood forests of Vermont to Burlington on Lake Champlain. Before your day comes to an end, stop by the quintessential New England village of Woodstock. Stay 1 night at the Holiday Inn Rutland (or similar).
Day 6: Green Mountains – Newport
Cross the state line today and venture into the smallest state in the USA, Rhode Island, where you’ll be greeted with spectacular coastal scenery and grandiose architecture. Take a stroll along Newport’s Cliff Walk, between pounding Atlantic surf and the sprawling lawns of the city’s famous Gilded Age mansions. Pay a visit to one of these opulent mansions which may have been a summer home to Vanderbilts or Astors. This evening, you can dine at a classic New England Clam Bake (optional). Stay 1 night at the Newport Beach Hotel & Suites (or similar).
Day 7: Newport – Cape Cod
Continue along the coast from the opulence of Newport to the unspoilt natural beauty of Cape Cod today. Here picture perfect beaches with high sand dunes, never-ending sea, stunning lighthouses and magnificent sunsets are waiting to be discovered. Stay 2 nights at the Riviera Beach Resort (or similar).
Day 8: Cape Cod – Martha's Vineyard (optional) – Cape Cod
TA short 45 minute ferry ride from Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard is the jewel of New England. Spread over 100 square miles are six towns, each with its own proud history and unique character, historic sea captains' homes, charming gingerbread cottages, a quaint fishing village, five majestic lighthouses and the nation's oldest operating carousel. While exploring miles of pristine beaches, dramatic clay cliffs, rural landscapes and picturesque waterways you'll find Martha's Vineyard is more than just lobsters and clams.
Day 9: Cape Cod – Plymouth - Boston
Your tour takes you to Plymouth this morning, where the Pilgrims first set foot in the ‘New World’. See Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower (boarding admission not included). Continue on to in historic Boston. Here, you’ll follow the Freedom Trail to highlights including Boston Common, King’s Chapel, the Boston Massacre site and numerous pubs and taverns where America’s Founding Fathers toasted freedom. Enjoy lunch in one of Boston’s many restaurants – why not treat yourself to a hot cup of creamy New England clam chowder? Then, explore Boston’s first marketplace from the 1800s, Quincy Market, which today is home to inviting boutiques and cafés. Stay 1 night at the Marriott Quincy (or similar).
Day 10: Boston - London
