Day 1: London – San Francisco
As the gateway to northern California, San Francisco is your starting destination for this fly drive holiday. There’s no need to use a car in San Francisco, so make your way into the city where a myriad of popular sights and attractions are waiting to be discovered. Stay 2 nights at the Hotel Carlton (or similar).
Day 2: San Francisco
Explore the amazing sights of the City by the Bay. Epicurean enthusiasts should visit San Francisco��s Ferry Building Marketplace where you can interact with local farmers, artisan producers and independently owned and operated food businesses. Enjoy lunch at a gourmet cafe and take home culinary souvenirs. Stroll around Fisherman’s Wharf where you can visit several museums and shops including Ghirardelli Square. Take a ferry to Alcatraz Island where you can enjoy an audio guided tour of the infamous penitentiary.
Day 3: San Francisco – Napa Valley (approx. 48 miles)
Today, collect your Alamo car rental to begin your Californian drive, heading north over the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County and through stunning scenery as you head to the lush valleys of the Napa Valley region, with its quaint collection of towns offering some of the best wines in the world. Stay 5 nights at the Napa Winery Inn,an Ascend Hotel Collection Member(or similar).
Day 4-7: Napa Valley
Located in the heart of America’s Wine Country, Napa Valley packs an incredible punch in terms of superb scenery, quality wines, fabulous cuisine and top-class spas to sample at the many towns within the snug 35 mile long area that Napa Valley covers. Make sure that you pay a visit to the pretty towns of Yountville, St. Helena and Calistoga to see what all the fuss is about. During your stay, we recommend booking a trip on the Napa Valley Wine Train, a scenic 3-hour gourmet dining excursion aboard lavishly restored 1915-1950 Pullman Dining and Lounge Cars, or for a change of pace, take a hot-air balloon ride over the valley at sunset.
Day 8: Napa Valley – London
Either extend your stay and take in some of California’s other great destinations, or return your car to San Francisco Airport before boarding your flight back to London.
