Day 1: London – Miami
Fly into Miami, the Sunshine State of Florida and home to South Beach. Pick up your rental car and make your way to the first hotel on this exciting itinerary. Stay 1 night at Days Inn Miami Beach/Oceanside (or similar).
Day 2: Miami – Key West (approx. 160 miles)
Get ready for the journey to Key West. You will be crossing 42 bridges and 32 islands on the U.S. Route 1 all the way to the southernmost location in the continental United States. You will be passing Key Largo - the first in a chain of coral islands known as the Keys. You will have a chance to visit the only underwater park in the US, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Drive on to Key West and walk the Pelican Path to see Historic Key West. Don’t miss the Hemingway House, one of the most famous celebrity shrines. Stay 1 night at DoubleTree Grand Key Resort (or similar).
Day 3: Key West - Everglades National Park (approx. 166 miles)
Today, get ready to drive back along the Keys and head north. Be sure to save time for a guided kayak tour in the Florida Bay back country (advance booking recommended). Continue on to Homestead where a 10 mile backtrack will bring you to the Everglades National Park Visitor’s Center. To enjoy the ultimate Everglades experience book an airboat ride to be able to see turtles, herons, alligators and endangered species like the manatees. Stay 1 night at Miccosukee Resort (or similar).
Day 4: Everglades National Park – Naples (approx. 136 miles)
Leave Everglades National Park and continue on to the beach resort of Naples located on the Gulf of Mexico. You will have a choice of two main routes to Naples: Hwy 41, known as Tamiami Trail, or Interstate 75, Alligator Alley. When you arrive to Naples you can enjoy the fine dining, designer shops and the relaxing atmosphere of this beach community. Stay 1 night at Gulfcoast Inn (or similar).
Day 5: Naples – Sarasota (approx. 100 miles)
Today you will be driving north to Sarasota, passing the popular Fort Myers and Venice beaches. You will be able to stop and visit the winter residence of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford just outside of Fort Myers. We recommend trip to the tropical barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva (toll bridge), where you can visit Ding Darling State Park and enjoy the Floridian flora and fauna, or take a kayak trip through the mangroves. Stay 1 night at Ramada Waterfront Sarasota (or similar).
Day 6: Sarasota – Silver Springs (Approx. 180 miles)
This morning you will be travelling north again as you head for Crystal River. Stop en route at Homosassa Springs, home to Nature World, a nature reserve for endangered manatees. Continue to Silver Springs for the night. Stay 1 night at Sleep Inn & Suites (or similar).
Day 7: Silver Springs – St Augustine (approx. 120 miles)
Today visit Silver Springs Park where the first Tarzan movies were filmed or enjoy a glass bottom boat ride on the clear waters of Crystal Springs. Cross the Ocala National Forest via Palatka to St. Augustine. Ponce De Leon landed here in 1513 in search of eternal youth. You can visit the mythical Fountain of Youth during your stay. Stay 2 nights at DoubleTree Grand Key Resort (or similar).
Day 8: St Augustine
Located on the East coast of Florida, St. Augustine enjoys both the relaxing atmosphere of a beach town and the charm and intrigue of an historical city. You have a full day to explore places including the Castillo de San Marcos and Lightner Museum where the best collections of fine and decorative 19th century art is kept. Stay 2 nights at Magnuson Hotel St. Augustine (or similar).
Day 9: St Augustine – Orlando (approx. 110 miles)
Today, visit the famous Daytona Beach - a meeting place for motor-sports fans and the home of NASCAR. Enjoy the Boardwalk and Pier, and perhaps visit the Marine Science Center before heading off to Interstate 4 to the ‘theme park capital of the world’, Orlando, your base for the next three nights. Stay 3 nights at Champions World Resort (or similar).
Day 10-11: Orlando
The main decision during your stay will be deciding which parks to visit. Choose between Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure or SeaWorld. A good sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. (Admissions not included).
Day 12: Orlando - Miami – London
Get ready for your drive back Miami. If time permits before your return flight home we suggest you travel along the coastline allowing you to visit NASA’s Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral. A small admission fee (not included) allows you to see a myriad of space related exhibits and learn about NASA’s past and ongoing space missions. Continue your drive to Miami to drop your rental car off before catching your return flight home.
