Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: London – New York

Start your holiday with a flight from London to New York, arriving the same day. On arrival, make your way into Manhattan and check in at your hotel. Stay 2 nights at the Wyndham New Yorker (or similar).

Day 2: New York

Spend a full day seeing the sights of the Big Apple. Shop along Fifth Avenue, take a cruise to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, scale the Empire State building, go backstage with a tour of NBC studios, discover the Rockefeller centre and stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. In the evening, why not see the lights of Times Square and catch a Broadway Show?

Day 3: New York – Albany (approx. 152 miles)

Pick up your hire car and leaving New York City behind, head to state capital Albany. Here you can pay a visit to the fascinating New York State Museum, tour colonial founders’ homes like the Ten Broeck Mansion, Hart-Cluett House and Schuyler Mansion or climb aboard USS Slater, a restored WWII Destroyer Escort. Albany’s geographical position between New York City and Montreal in Canada, makes it a popular stop off point for national touring artists so look out for what’s on at the Palace Theatre and other local venues. Stay 1 night at The Century House, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member (or similar).

Day 4: Albany – Syracuse (approx. 145 miles)

Leave Albany this morning and head towards the university town of Syracuse. You might like to stop for lunch in Utica, where you can tour a diamond mine or visit the Saranac Brewery, the 8th largest craft brewery in the USA. Further along the road, the Fort Stanwix National Monument offers an insight into the history of the Revolutionary War. Arrive into Syracuse and settle into your hotel. Stay 2 night at the Hilton Garden Inn Syracuse (or similar).

Day 5: Syracuse

There’s plenty to discover in the historic city of Syracuse. For shopping and entertainment, it’s hard to beat the huge Destiny USA shopping mall in the city’s Lakefront district. Alternatively, the Onondaga Historical Association Museum and Erie Canal Museum give a good introduction into Syracuse’s past. If the weather’s fine, you might prefer to take advantage of the city’s many green spaces and hire a boat in Green Lakes State Park. After a busy day of sightseeing, why not relax with some cider tasting at the Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards?

Day 6: Syracuse - Rochester (approx. 88 miles)

A relatively short drive today gives you the chance to visit the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State. Make your way to Watkins Glen State Park at the southern end of Seneca Lake for stunning walks over rocky cliffs and past cascading waterfalls. Arrive into Rochester in the evening and sample the vibrant nightlife that the East End District of the city has to offer. Stay 2 night at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Rochester – Marketplace (or similar).

Day 7: Rochester

Known as ‘the Flower City’ for its annual Lilac Festival, Rochester has consistently been voted one of America’s most liveable cities. Visit the George Eastman House, the oldest museum of photography in the world or browse the public market. You can also drive out of town to Elmira to see the historical sites associated with local writer Mark Twain. No visit to Rochester would be complete without trying the local speciality, a ‘white hot garbage plate’ from Nick Tahou Hots.

Day 8: Rochester - Niagara Falls (approx. 85 miles)

Leave Rochester today and continue west to Niagara Falls, via the city of Buffalo where you might want to make a stop to look around. The perfect place for a pit stop, Buffalo is home to some of architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s best preserved buildings as well as one of the finest collections of modern and contemporary art (at the Albright Knox Gallery). Stop for lunch at the Anchor Bar, the birthplace of the Buffalo Wing. Drive on to Niagara Falls for 2 nights at the Sheraton at the Falls Hotel (or similar).

Day 9: Niagara Falls

Spend the day at the world’s most famous waterfalls. No visit here would be complete without a cruise on the Maid of the Mist or a Cave of the Winds tour, taking you to down to 6 metres from the base of Bridal Veil Falls. Alternatively, you can experience history at old fort Niagara, take a thrilling ride through class V rapids on the Niagara River, taste a wide variety of wines on the Niagara wine trail or shop till you drop at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA.

Day 10: Niagara Falls – New York

It’s time to leave Niagara today and drive back to Buffalo where you’ll drop your hire car back at the airport and catch a flight back to the New York. There’s some free time this evening to have a meal in Little Italy or catch a performance at Carnegie Hall. Stay 1 night at the Wyndham New Yorker (or similar).

Day 11: New York - London

After some last minute photo opportunities and souvenir shopping, make your way back to the airport and catch a flight back to the UK. If you’d like to extend your journey or spend another couple of nights in New York, just let us know!

Day 12: Arrive back in London
