Day 1: London – San Francisco
Fly to San Francisco, arriving the same day and independently transfer to your hotel. Stay 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf (or similar).
Day 2-3: San Francisco
Spend three days exploring the amazing sights of the City by the Bay. Epicurean enthusiasts should visit San Francisco’s Ferry Building Marketplace where you can interact with local farmers, artisan producers, and independently owned and operated food businesses. Enjoy lunch at a gourmet café and take home culinary souvenirs. Stroll around Fisherman’s Wharf where you can visit several museums and shops including Ghirardelli Square. Take a ferry to Alcatraz Island where you can enjoy an audible guided tour of the infamous penitentiary.
Day 4: San Francisco – Sonoma County (approx. 95 miles)
San Francisco, collect your Alamo car rental to begin your Californian drive, heading north over the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County and the waterfront beauty of Sausalito. With the feel of a Mediterranean town, upmarket Sausalito enjoys stunning views of the Bay and San Francisco, while Muir Woods National Monument and trails in Pt. Reyes National Seashore will thrill nature-lovers. Stay 2 nights at Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel, Santa Rosa (or similar).
Day 5: Sonoma County
Follow the Russian River to Sonoma Coast State park taking in the enormous coastal Redwoods en route. The ancient coast redwood is the tallest living thing on our planet! Take the time to explore some of Sonoma County’s beautiful coastal towns such as Bodega Bay and Jenner as well as the county’s capital, Santa Rosa. Sonoma has a vibrant restaurant scene which reflects the agricultural bounty of the region. Wine tasting in one of the areas’ 195 wineries is a must.
Day 6: Sonoma County – Napa Valley (approx. 45 miles)
Today, drive further inland to your next wine destination of Napa Valley. With the day at leisure to take in the sights and tastes of some of California's best produced and celebrated local product. Stay 2 nights at River Terrace Inn (or similar).
Day 7: Napa Valley
World-renowned Napa Valley is home to a collection of very pretty, small towns such as Yountville, St. Helena and Calistoga all boasting incredible wineries and accommodation. Catch the Napa Valley Wine Train, a scenic 3-hour gourmet-dining excursion aboard lavishly restored 1915-1950 Pullman Dining and Lounge Cars or for a change of pace take a hot-air balloon ride over the valley at sunset.
Day 8: Napa Valley – San Francisco – London
Either extend your stay and take in some of California’s finest destinations, or return your car to San Francisco Airport before boarding your departure flight to London.
