The Zapata Ranch is stunningly situated at the base of Southern Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains with open views over Great Sand Dunes National Park. This 103,000-acre Bison ranch offers guests the chance to join in the daily activities of a working ranch, encompassing everything from fixing fences to assessing pasture and checking herd health. There are also daily horseback rides available for all abilities taking you through the bison herd and into the National Park.
The region around the ranch is known as the ‘American Serengeti’ and you’re likely to spot antelope, elk, deer and other wild animals, especially if you take part in a guided nature walk into the mountains or sand dunes. Also included in your stay is top-end service and delicious western cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, served in the lodge-style dining room.
