You can't come to Surf City and not give surfing a go. Huntington Beach holidays offer the perfect chance to learn, and there are several surf schools, plus gentle waves at Bolsa Chica State Beach which are ideal for beginners. But if you don't fancy getting wet, then you can always discover plenty more about the art of the board at the International Surfing Museum.
Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
This is a must for wildlife lovers, with over 320 of Orange County's 420 native species having been spotted here over the past decade - including great blue herons, brown pelicans and snowy egrets. Elsewhere there are trails through stunning coastal wetlands - plus free guided week-end tours twice a month.
Theme Park Thrills
Don't forget that even though you're spending your days soaking up the West Coast vibe, you're only half an hour away from Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. That means you can easily slot in a day trip to ride the awesome coasters and sample the Disney Magic. It's a must if you've got the kids with you.
Running from the ocean front to Downtown, Main Street pulses with boutiques, surf shops, restaurants, cafés and bars. It gets even better on Surf City Nights every Tuesday, when cars are banned and the street fills up with a farmer's market, street performers, stalls, food vendors, musicians and kids' activities.
Huntington Beach Pier
The town's 564 metre-long pier is its most enduring symbol, and no Huntington Beach holidays are complete without a stroll along it. It's a great spot to stop and watch the surfers in action, or to cast a line in the hope of catching halibut and sea bass. There's also Ruby's Diner right at the end, where you can down a shake or burger whilst staring out at the endless Pacific.
