There's a chance to get away from it all at this State Park, which comes complete with seven separate coves stretching along more than 3 miles of beach, plus superb hiking and mountain biking through 2,400 unspoilt acres of the El Moro Backcountry. Out on the ocean there's good surfing and swimming, plus plenty to keep divers and snorkelers happy.
Festival of the Arts
California's top art show runs throughout July and August, and features 140 amazing artists working across a variety of media. See the artists at work, admire their output, and maybe even buy a souvenir. Also be amazed by the nightly Pageant of the Masters, when actors use props and lighting to recreate famous paintings as 'living' works of art.
There's ample opportunity to enjoy the Pacific's amazing wildlife - both above and below the waves. This whole stretch of coast is designated a State Marine Preserve, which means great diving and snorkeling, especially at Shaw's Cove's astonishing outer reef. On top of the water, look out for seals, sea lions and dolphins - even blue and grey whales.
A stroll through Heisler Park is always a favourite on Laguna Beach holidays. Perched high above the beach, it offers fantastic views over the coast. Admire the park's beautiful sculptures, before sitting on a bench for some quiet contemplation with the ocean spread out before you.
Hunt For Treasure
Tidepooling is a way of life here, and there's no knowing what marine treasures you might find in the pools among the rocks once the tide retreats: anemones, starfish, hermit crabs and striped shore crabs are all possible - even the occasional octopus or sea cucumber. Shaw's Cove, Treasure Island, Picnic Beach and Crescent Bay are all top spots.
