Central States Holidays

Welcome to the Wild West Frontier. The Central States are the heart of America, where cowboys still corral their cattle and the spirit of the Old West still hangs in the air. If you’re looking for wide open landscapes and even wider smiles of welcome, this is the place to head for. From the rolling Great Plains to the dramatic peaks and troughs of Big Bend National Park and the sweeping beaches of the Gulf Coast, the landscapes here are all epic.
Cowboys are everywhere on Central States holidays. From shopping for your own pair of boots and a fancy Stetson to joining a cattle drive during a stay on a ranch, you can experience the cowboy life to your heart’s desire. Where there are cowboys, there are indians, and holidays here also give you the opportunity to learn more about the many Native American nations who are represented in this vast region.
Another American icon threading its way through the Central States is Route 66, which has its longest stretch through Oklahoma and its shortest through Kansas. A lazy country drive passes neon-lit diners, Mop & Pop stores and vintage petrol stations, along with many of the quirky Americana attractions for which the Mother Road is famous.
But it’s not all rural attractions and wide open spaces in America’s heartland. In fact, the Old West blends nicely with the cosmopolitan hipness of cities like Dallas, Houston and Oklahoma City. Austin with its Formula One racing, Dallas with its inviting tax free shopping (perfect for buying that cowboy hat you always wanted) and the historic jazz bars of Kansas City are just some of the urban delights on offer.
So saddle up, ride out and have y’all a great vacation in the Central States of the USA.

What a Sport

If you like sports, there are plenty to choose from on holidays to the Central States, whether you want to cheer on the Kansas City Royals baseball team at the Kauffman Stadium, experience Formula One in Austin, watch American football at the AT&T stadium in Dallas or see the San Antonio Spurs clash with the Houston Rockets on the basketball pitch, there’s an event for you.

Cowboy Culture

Watch the twice daily cattle drive pass through the streets of Fort Worth, spend a few days or more at a working ranch, catch a professional rodeo or gain an insight into Western history at the the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, boasting more than 28,000 Western and American Indian art works and artefacts.

BBQ Central

There's something special about eating a big pile of brisket off a butcher-paper 'plate'. Kansas and Texas both boast the best BBQ joints but whatever place you choose to eat, the sizes are never small. In Oklahoma too, BBQ, fried chicken with white gravy, corn-on-the-cob, green beans and fried okra are also on the menu.

Strike up the Band

Get your toes tapping at some great music venues in the Central States. Choose from classic jazz in Kansas City’s 18th and Vine District, alternative vibes at Austin’s array of music festivals including South by Southwest, Texas Blues in San Antonio or classic Country and Western at Oklahoma City’s Centennial Rodeo Opry.

Big Bend National Park

The only National Park in this region of the USA, Big Bend covers 801,163 acres, making it larger than the entire state of Rhode Island. In this corner of Texas, the night skies are dark as tar and rivers carve temple-like canyons through ancient limestone. This is a landscape of amazing diversity and jaw-dropping beauty. It’s a must-see on any Central States itinerary.

You’re going to need an ESTA!
For anyone travelling to the USA, the US authorities have imposed a requirement for passengers travelling under the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), to register for Electronic Travel Authority. Passengers who have not applied for and received travel authorisation via ESTA prior to travel could be denied boarding of the plane or be refused admission at the US entry destination. However, neither possession of a visa, nor meeting the basic requirements for travelling visa-free on the VWP, guarantees admission to the United States. As with most countries, the final determination of admissibility is made by immigration officials at the port of entry.

How do I apply for ESTA?
Just fill in the online application form which you can find at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. Before you travel, you will need to visit this website and fill in the form.

When is best to apply for my travel authorisation?
You will need to apply for entry via ESTA at least a minimum of 72 hours prior to travel if you intend to travel to America.

How long is the travel authorisation valid for?
Your ESTA will be valid for up to two years, or until your passport expires. It is also valid for multiple entries to America. However you must amend any necessary data, such as date of travel and your address whilst in the US.
