We don't need to tell you that the city of Las Vegas is most famous for the ridiculous amount of fun it offers to visitors who stay there throughout the year. From its iconic hotel-casino resorts to the seemingly never-ending concert residencies from the biggest names in music, there are many reasons why Vegas is known – quite rightly – as the 'Entertainment Capital of the World'.
It would be fair to say, however, that 'Sin City' is less well-known for the opportunities it provides for indulging in a little retail therapy. Nevertheless, any couples or families who have enjoyed Las Vegas holidays in the past will be able to tell you that this wonderful destination is, in fact, something of a shopper's paradise.
Like its casinos, the malls and outlets in Vegas are far too numerous for us to discuss them all here, but we have picked out four of our favourites that we think should definitely make it onto your itinerary if hitting the shops is one of your favourite holiday pastimes!
Las Vegas South Premium Outlets
Where to find it: 7400 South Las Vegas Boulevard, NV 89123
Although the terms 'outlet store' and 'factory store' may not immediately conjure up the most sophisticated images in our minds, there's another clue in this particular location's name that gives a better idea of the experience awaiting customers: 'premium'.
Even the most frequent and dedicated UK-based shopaholics are sure to be amazed by the extraordinary range of shops that are packed into this shopping centre, which is quite simply the number one place to go in Las Vegas if you are keen to grab some top-quality attire so that you look the part when you hit the casino in the evening.
The range of shops featured at Las Vegas South Premium Outlets is staggering and ensures that every member of the family, regardless of their age and taste, could spend hours looking around at what's available. From Adidas and Armani to Tommy Hilfiger and Timberland, the range of merchandise you'll find here is unlike almost anything you'd be able to enjoy back home.
Like many of the best US shopping malls, this location has been designed so that shoppers can spend the whole day here without even having to go off-site to find something for lunch. Dining is an experience in itself at this place, with just some of the many restaurants here specialising in Chinese, Mexican and Italian cuisine.
Bonanza Gift Shop
Where to find it: 2400 South Las Vegas Boulevard, NV 89104
For our next choice, we go from the sublime to the ridiculous – and we're pretty sure even this shop's owners wouldn't mind us describing it like that! The Bonanza Gift Shop proudly bills itself as the 'World's Largest Gift Shop' and, even if the accuracy of that description has been questioned by some, this location is undeniably massive for a shop of this size, stretching over 40,000 square feet.
Bonanza has stood the test of time, first opening back in 1980, and is now going stronger than ever. Unashamedly kitsch, today's shop offers a huge range of Vegas-themed products, all of which are perfect for taking back home as souvenirs or gifts for the friends and family who weren't lucky enough to come along with you.
Some examples of the best-selling products at Bonanza include t-shirts emblazoned with the iconic 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada' sign, pictures of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin's legendary Rat Pack and, at the more 'authentic' end of the scale, plenty of genuine, handmade Native American jewellery.
Like so many things in Vegas, visiting the Bonanza Gift Shop is a one-of-a-kind experience and is worth doing even if you don't intend to part with any cash!
Gamblers General Store
Where to find it: 727 South Main Street, NV 89101
As mentioned at the start, Las Vegas has long been – and probably always will be – chiefly known for one thing: its casinos. So, if you are among the countless visitors who are coming to this metropolis in the desert mainly to indulge in thrilling games of chance, you may also be interested to know that there is a place where you can find all sorts of memorabilia to take home with you that is dedicated to this most unique of holiday pastimes.
Like Bonanza, the Gamblers General Store on South Main Street has been going strong since the 1980s, and with good reason. Unquestionably the best place in the world to find gambling-related products, we can virtually guarantee that you will be able to source whatever it is you want here. If it's playing cards you're looking for, for instance, this shop always has decks with over 800 different designs in stock, featuring everything from your favourite sports team to the Marvel superheroes.
Amongst all the poker chips (custom-made, if you like!), gaming tables and visors, you may also stumble across the Gamblers Book Club; this shop-within-a-shop offers more books on gambling than any other in the world so, if you fancy reading about the Mafia's history in Las Vegas, the issues of probability in gambling or the world of horse racing on the flight home, you will have over 3,000 titles to choose from!
The Forum Shops at Caesars
Where to find it: 3500 South Las Vegas Boulevard, NV 89109
We finish with a luxurious flourish. Caesars Palace is arguably the most famous of all Las Vegas' casinos, but not everybody may know about the extraordinary shopping area which was added to the resort in the early 1990s and has since developed into the highest-grossing mall in the US in terms of its sales per square foot.
The Forum Shops at Caesars redefines the idea of luxury shopping; the opulent names of the 160 outlets which fill its three floors (including the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton) are just one element of what you will enjoy in this amazing shopping destination.
Whilst you're there, be sure to take a look at the Forum's 50,000 gallon-capacity aquarium, take in the wonderful Fall of Atlantis animatronic show, and marvel at the elegant architecture that makes up the whole building; once you've spent an afternoon here, doing your weekly shop back home will never quite be the same again!
