Day 1: London – Philadelphia
Take a flight from London to Philadelphia, arriving the same day. Once you land, pick up your hire car and drive into the city centre for your overnight stay. Spend your first evening in the City of Brotherly Love with an early dinner, perhaps to try the local delicacy of Philly Cheese Steak. Stay 2 nights at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue (or similar).
Day 2: Philadelphia
The day is yours to explore this historic city, birthplace of America, and home to the both Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Philadelphia also boasts a world class Art museum with its famous 'Rocky' steps, as well as superb shopping, formal gardens and impressive architecture. In the evening, stroll the walkable Center City and take your pick of the many restaurants, bars, cafes and even food trucks.
Day 3: Philadelphia - Valley Forge (approx. 25 miles)
A leisurely drive this morning out of the city with a first stop to enjoy fabulous shopping at the King of Prussia Mall - a vast but elegant sky-lit indoor mall of over 400 retailers and restaurants. In the afternoon continue on to Valley Forge Historic National Park, a famous American Revolutionary War site. An easy to follow trail will take you to Valley Forge's many historic monuments and sites, such as General Washington's Headquarters and Varnum's Quarters, which tell the story of the Revolution. Stay one night at the nearby Embassy Suites Valley Forge (or similar).
Day 4: Valley Forge – The Brandywine Valley (approx. 30 miles)
Head southbound this morning to the Brandywine Valley, known as America’s Garden Capital’, a beautiful region set along the Brandywine Creek. Spend the day at the magnificent Longwood Gardens, with over 1000 acres of grounds to explore, including over 11,000 different types of plants as well as the beautiful Italian Water Garden, Flower Garden Walk and eight different woodland habitats. Stay 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Kennett Square (or similar).
Day 5: The Brandywine Valley
A full day to enjoy the rest of the lovely Brandywine Valley area. Amongst the highlights of this area are the Winterthur Country Museum, the Brandywine River Museum and the beautiful Nemours Mansion. There is also the Brandywine Battlefield site to visit, commemorating a rare defeat in the Revolutionary War. Alternatively, follow the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail which runs through this area and with many distinct wineries to enjoy, including Chaddsford Winery which provides regular tours and tastings.
Day 6: Wilmington – Philadelphia (approx. 25 miles)
Spend the last morning of your tour at nearby Wilmington which offers an attractive bustling Riverfront area with a vibrant bar and restaurant scene. Nearby there are many historic and scenic attractions to visit including the cobblestone streets of Old New Castle and the ramparts of Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island. In the afternoon take the short drive following the Delaware River upstream to Philadelphia International Airport for your flight home.
