Denver Holidays

With its Rocky Mountain backdrop and frontier spirit, Denver is a city where you’ll just want to get out and explore. The Mile High City, so called for its exact altitude of 5280ft, blends period architecture and Western history with modern skyscrapers and a cosmopolitan feel. And there’s always something going on here, from rodeos to music festivals and events celebrating Denver’s love affair with boutique beers.

Start by taking the 37-minute train ride from the airport to Denver Union Station in the walkable city centre, steps from the 16th Street Mall, a mile-long pedestrian promenade lined with outdoor cafés and shops. If you’re a shopping fan, you’ll also love the boutiques around Larimer Square and the neighbourhood of Cherry Creek, which is home to over 160 stores and restaurants. In fact, there’s a neighbourhood for every taste here, from the galleries and rooftop bars of Historic LoDo (Lower Downtown) to the eclectic eateries of Highlands and RiNo (River North).

Visit Golden Triangle Creative District to find Denver Art Museum, home to famous Western and American Indian art collections, the collection of abstract expressionist art at Clyfford Still Museum and works of Colorado artists and international design at the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art. The locals here are passionate about two things in particular; sport and beer. So it would be a shame to miss a game of baseball at Coors Field or self-guided tour to the breweries on the Denver Beer Trail.

Just a short drive out of town, the Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre holds regular concerts during the summer under the stars in a jaw-dropping setting. You can also make the popular day trip along the USA’s highest paved road to the alpine summit of Mt Evans. Further afield, some of the USA’s most stunning natural vistas are just waiting to be discovered, including Rocky Mountain National Park and the world famous Yellowstone National Park.

Denver Beer Trail

The Mile High City is often referred to as the ‘Napa Valley of Beer’ with more beer produced in the metropolitan area than in any other urban region of the USA. The Denver Beer Trail allows you to sample just a select few of the boutique breweries on offer, mainly in the walkable downtown area. From dense stouts to pale lagers, all tastes are catered for.

Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is known for its fantastic acoustics and plays host to a spectacular concert series between May and September in stunning surroundings. But this isn’t just a concert venue – it’s also a wonderful city park with easy hiking trails through large sandstone outcrops and great views over the city skyline. The visitor’s centre here includes a Performers’ Hall of Fame, showcasing the world famous acts who have performed here, from the Beatles to Mumford & Sons.

Retail Therapy

Just 15 minutes southeast of downtown, Cherry Creek is a leafy neighbourhood full of galleries, boutiques and restaurants. Cherry Creek Shopping Centre is home to more than 160 stores including Macy’s, Levi’s, Burberry and Hugo Boss. Visit the guest desk and ask for your 'Passport to Shopping', offering discounts at many of the retail outlets and restaurants.

Ready for the Ranch

A true Western icon, Jack A. Weil invented the first cowboy shirt with press studs and helped popularised Western wear as legitimate American fashion. His grandson Steve continues the tradition today at Rockmount Ranch Wear in the heart of downtown, where you can find signature designs worn by rock stars and film legends.

Art Cycle

Why not discover Denver’s creative art districts using the city’s great bike sharing system? You can check out and return a B-cycle at 85 stations around the city from just $9 for a 24 hour membership. Peddle your way through the River North Art District (RiNo) or the Art District on Santa Fe, which is home to more than 100 galleries, art studios and creative businesses. Denver’s art districts also celebrate the first Friday of each month with art walks when galleries are open late.
