Holidays to Las Vegas

Las Vegas holidays! Just those few words conjure up so much. Built around a natural oasis in the Nevada desert, the City of Las Vegas earned the nickname ‘Sin City’ after the legalisation of casinos and the relaxation of divorce laws in Nevada. But these days it revels in the alternative nickname ‘The Entertainment Capital of the World’.

So much more than just casinos, your Las Vegas holiday brings the world to you. Let's face it, where else can you explore an Egyptian pyramid before breakfast (at The Luxor), take a gondola ride before lunch (at The Venetian), and climb the Eiffel Tower before dinner (Paris Las Vegas)? Outside the Tuscan-themed Bellagio, fountains of water shoot 140 metres into the air, in time to a spectacular music and lights show. Here the hotels aren't just places to sleep - they're fully themed locations with rides, restaurants, 'experiences', malls and more!

Then there's the swathe of plush casinos, where you can take your place at the table or simply watch the high rollers do what they do best. And, should your number come up, there's no shortage of ways to spend your winnings.

It’s hard to imagine a Las Vegas holiday without shopping and there are so many to choose from. Bonanza ‘the world’s largest gift shop’, Fashion Show Mall, Harmon Corner and more are among the highlights, and after a hard day’s shop, you might want to dine out in one of the many highly rated restaurants. Whether you’re after vegetarian or the finest steaks; classic American or world cuisine; it’s all here, and of course, it’s not called the Entertainment Capital of the World for nothing, as you can see exclusive shows from some of the world’s top entertainers like Cirque du Soleil, Blue Man Group, and Penn & Teller.

Don't forget also that beyond Vegas lies some spectacular scenery. If the man-made heaven of The Strip and Downtown become too much, then you can re-connect with nature by taking a day-trip to the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, or the Hoover Dam. They say what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas, but you are sure going to want to take some pictures here. Jaw-dropping vistas are the order of the day with ample opportunity to recharge your batteries before plunging back into the innumerable pleasures of 'Sin City'.

Inspire Me

“Sin City” the entertainment capital of the world, if you’re heading off on your Las Vegas holidays, you will want to know the must-see places and the must-do activities. Check out these suggested itineraries for anyone visiting this glitzy, glamorous, oasis in the Nevada desert, but remember, what’s happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

For anyone planning their Las Vegas holiday but with a limited time to spend, here’s a handy guide to some of the top attractions that you don’t want to miss. If you are only able to stay for a few days, the huge choice of restaurants, shopping, casinos, entertainment and attractions could be overwhelming, so check out this handy guide to the key points.

When Christmas comes to an end, you have months of long nights, grey days, bitter cold and the prospect of a light dusting of snow closing the roads and sending the trains into chaos. Or you can fly away to a city in the middle of a desert, where the entertainment, amazing restaurants and famous casinos keep going long after the sun sets.

Nobody does Christmas with as much pizzazz and style as the Americans and few cities in the USA do pizzazz quite like Vegas. Every season is holiday season in Las Vegas but at Christmas, the sparkle is heaped upon glitter. Whether dining out, gambling or catching a show, it’s all here. Plus, you can go skating and see Father Christmas in a seasonal average high of 14°C.

Walk the Strip

The Las Vegas Strip

Taking a stroll along the Strip is not like any other walk you've taken before. Along this artery flows the very lifeblood of the city. It's a place of wonder with towering fountains, dancing mermaids, erupting volcanoes, breathtaking light shows and much, much more. You can even get your retail therapy fix on the paved Roman streets of Simon Shopping Destinations’ The Forum Shops at Caesars®.

Seek Your Fortune

Gambling is what Vegas is all about, whether it be roulette, blackjack, craps, poker, keno - or simply playing the slots. Here it's not only about the winning, it's also about the taking part, since if you haven't experienced a casino, you haven't really experienced Las Vegas.

Take A Ride

Thrill-seekers are spoilt for choice in Vegas, where the rides and amusement parks on offer deliver some high-octane experiences. Circus Circus' Adventuredome is a must with its double loop, double-corkscrew Canyon Blaster and gravity-defying El Loco, while the rides at the Stratosphere are strictly for those with no history of vertigo. You have been warned!

Catch A Show

Show business is very much a part of the Las Vegas scene, and you can catch all kinds of shows during your stay, from big name singers to comedians, circus acts, variety spectaculars and Broadway musicals. Just remember to study what's on in advance, and book ahead.

Explore & Discover

You don't have to stay in the city all the time. Beyond Vegas there's the whole of the surrounding desert landscape to be discovered, and some breathtaking scenery on offer. The iconic Grand Canyon, spectacular Hoover Dam, peaceful Red Rock Canyon and the drama of the Valley of Fire are all within reach.

Getting around:
Being such a compact city, many of Las Vegas’ main attractions are located on The Strip. What people don’t realise is that The Strip is 4.5 miles long, which can be walked, or travelled by bus, taxi, or seen by the Las Vegas Monorail which connects 6 hotels from the MGM Grand to the LVH Hotel. Taxi fares start from $2.70 on the metre and an extra $1.80 added per mile you travel. Or, if car is your transport of choice, then you’re in luck as virtually every major hotel provides free parking, however do remember to tip the valet.

Las Vegas has a sunny disposition, boasting approximately 320 days of sunshine. However during autumn, winter and early spring the temperature is slightly cooler with spots of rain so be sure to pack some warm clothing.

Insider Tip:
Tipping is a way of life in Las Vegas, from your taxi ride, to the valet person and the cocktail waitress. Make sure to always keep some notes handy.
