Miami Beach

It doesn't matter whether the sun is high in the sky or slumbering over the horizon, Miami Beach holidays pack a mighty big punch any time of day. With miles of white sand just perfect for soaking up the rays- and a jumping nightlife that has everyone from holidaymakers to superstars wanting a piece of the action, Miami Beach is nothing short of an American icon.

South Beach, or 'SoBe' to those in the know, is at the very heart of the Miami scene. Flanked by stunning Art Deco buildings and the cool bars, clubs and restaurants of Ocean Drive, it's the place both to see and be seen. Mix with the in-crowd as you strut across the sand or relax on a lounger and simply watch the mesmerising parade of tanned bodies and designer swimwear pass by. The party here never stops.

So-Be is only part of the story on Miami Beach holidays though, and there are plenty other stretches of sparkling ocean to enjoy. Surfers head to Haulover Beach for the biggest swells, while windsurfers skim the waves at Hobie. The sheltered lagoon of Matheson Hammock Park is perfect for families and snorkelers, while over at Crandon Park Beach in Key Biscayne, beach barbeques and volleyball games are played out to a soundtrack of salsa, disco and reggae music.

Neither does it matter what time of year you visit Miami Beach, because it's a year-round destination blessed with reliably warm temperatures and sunny skies. Most of the time the thermometer hovers somewhere between 25⁰C and 31⁰C, making any day a perfect one to swim in the ocean, stretch out on the sand or sip a cooling Margarita. Welcome to Miami.

Shopping Heaven

If retail therapy is your thing, you'll find plenty of it on a holiday to Miami Beach. Lincoln Road has unique shops as well as restaurants perfect for people watching; Española Way specialises in collectibles and galleries; Washington Avenue is the place to go for the latest club gear and vintage clothing; and Collins Avenue does designer couture, while Ocean Drive channels funky boutiques.

Underwater World

Diving and snorkelling are both tops in Miami Beach, which is surrounded by natural and man-made reefs, including over 30 ships, tanks and other vessels that lie submerged beneath the waves. The Wreck Trek is a series of dive sites linked together by ribbon cord, among them the wreck of the 100-foot long Matthew Lawrence barge, and two M60 Army tanks.

Art Deco District

The architecture of South Beach's Art Deco district makes for a spectacular backdrop. The stunning pastel buildings, with their porthole windows, ships' railings, sleek curves, glass blocks and shiny chrome make for prime eye candy. Drop by the Art Deco Welcome Centre on Ocean Drive to find out about the history of the lovingly preserved buildings and maybe to book a guided tour.

A Night to Remember

South Beach's nightlife is both legendary and diverse; whether you want to celeb-spot in cool clubs or kick-back with a cocktail in an Art Deco hotel lounge, you can do it - whatever the hour. Big-hitting clubs like Mansion have top DJs spinning tunes for the international party crowd. Or you could channel the Latin vibe at a salsa club.
