Day 1: Arrive Boston
Arrive into historic Boston, home of Harvard and the Red Sox. Spend the evening discovering the city's diverse restaurant scene, with delicious Italian, Oriental and fresh seafood all on the menu; or drop by the famous Cheers bar to check out whether it really is the place where everybody knows you name. Day 2 - 3: Boston
Get under the skin of America's 'walking city'. Day 4: Boston - New York
Ride the Northeast Regional Amtrak service from Boston's South Station to Penn Station in the heart of Manhattan. Feel the buzz of the big city and grab the chance to spot some of the Big Apple's stand-out landmarks en route to your hotel. Stay 3 nights at the Holiday Inn New York City - Wall Street (or similar).
Day 5 - 6: New York
Spend two full days experiencing all that the ‘City that Never Sleeps' has to offer. Take the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building for eye-popping views over Manhattan. Ride the ferry to get a close-up view of Lady Liberty. Stroll through Central Park for the quintessential New York experience. Stop by the Met, the Guggenheim or MOMA for a blast of culture. Shop till you drop, catch a Broadway show and discover for yourself just why this city is so good they named it twice.
Day 7: New York - Philadelphia
Jump in a yellow cab and weave your way to Penn Station. Then sit back and relax as the train speeds you onward to Philadelphia. It's only a 70-minute journey, so you'll have plenty of time to grab a traditional Philly cheesesteak sandwich on arrival. Stay 3 nights at the Hyatt at the Bellevue(or similar).
Day 8 - 9: Philadelphia
This is the city where old meets new - the 'cradle of democracy' where a modern city skyline sits side-by-side with a clutch of historic sites key to America's birth as a nation. It's where the Declaration of Independence and the American Constitution were signed and where you can get a close-up look at the Liberty Bell at Independence Hall. It's also a city with some great art, and there's a treasure trove of masterpieces at the Museum of Art, as well as a stand-out Impressionist collection at the Barnes Foundation.
Day 10: Philadelphia - Washington DC
Catch the train from Philadelphia's famous 30th Street Station, bound for Washington DC. A journey of just an hour and three-quarters will see you in the heart of the American capital. Spend 3 nights at the Embassy Row Hotel (or similar).
Day 11 - 12: Washington DC
Washington is a happening city in every way. It's where the wheels of American politics turn and where major decisions are made on a daily basis - plus it's also got a happening bar and restaurant scene. Walking the National Mall, with its memorials to the nation's great and good, past a string of iconic US institutions including the domed Capitol Building, is a must. So is a visit to the White House and to some of the 19 amazing museums that make up the famed Smithsonian Institution.
Day 13: Depart Washington DC
