Scottsdale Holidays

They call the area around Scottsdale 'The Valley of the Sun' for good reason: it's because the fiery orb shines brightly for around 320 days a year here, making Scottsdale holidays the perfect choice all year round. Add to that top-quality shopping, superb golf, great restaurants and some of the best spas in the Southwest, and you can see why this desert oasis is a magnet not only for holidaymakers in search of some R&R, but for a host of celebrities too.

If you want to get away from it all, then you can do just that on Scottsdale holidays. The city sits amid the Sonoran Desert, and its beautiful landscapes of craggy mountains, rolling hills, and plains studded by giant saguaro cacti makes for the perfect place to escape. You can hike or ride horseback along the countless trails that dot the desert and get right back to nature. Or you can opt for a different kind of relaxation and simply lounge poolside, or enjoy a spa treatment.

But if it's action you want, then there's plenty of that in Scottsdale too. The city is famous for its shopping, and you can buy anything from Native American jewellery to high-end designer labels in the numerous malls and stores. Then once you've secured yourself a new favourite outfit, you can show it off at Scottsdale's more than 600 restaurants, or on the buzzing bar and club scene that kicks off once the sun goes down.

Art is another thing close to Scottsdale's heart, and touring the 100 plus galleries in the Marshall Way Arts District, taking part in the Thursday night Art Walks, or dropping into the Museum of Modern Art to view its five galleries and sculpture garden is a must. Just pick a month - any month - and Scottsdale delivers.

The Desert

Scottsdale desertGrab the opportunity to experience the beauty of the desert by getting out into the mountains, blood-red canyons and cacti-studded landscapes that surround Scottsdale. Take a hike along the trails of the stunning McDowell Sonoran Preserve; go off-road on a jeep trip to explore the desert's further flung corners; or glide over this unforgettable terrain in the basket of a hot air balloon.

Great Golf

With an astonishing 200 courses within reach, the golfing on Scottsdale holidays is second to none. Two of the best are the Monument and Pinnacle courses at Troon North, which offer not only excellent play but a spectacular setting amongst the ravines and boulder-strewn terrain below Pinnacle Peak. Just watch you don't slice your shot into a giant cactus.

Shopping Heaven

Buy, buy, buy is the motto here. There's art to browse in the Marshall Way Arts District; souvenirs, curios and Native American crafts in Old Town; designer labels at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Barneys and a host of boutiques and flagship stores at Fashion Square; and a string of big brands at the Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter malls.

The Kids Are Alright

If you're looking to keep the kids amused, there's plenty on offer. The 1300 animals at the Phoenix Zoo are always a hit, while at Macdonald's ranch there's a chance to enjoy pony and stagecoach rides in the desert. The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has train rides and carousels, while the Heard Museum is the place to discover all about Native American culture.

Scottdale's army of top notch resorts and day spas means relaxation is easy to come by. Pamper yourself with treatments inspired by Sonoran Desert botanicals and traditional Native American healing techniques.
